Smeared Ink Forum - Sketchy Scrapbook June

Been a little obsessed with that American Horror Story Season 2, Asylum.  All those creepy images, a great story, aliens, a mad doctor, the list goes on!  Though you know by now my favorite part...Bloody Face.





The sketch to the left is the Scrapbook Sketch for this month's challenge over at the Smeared Ink Forum.  Join and play along.

I have also challenged myself this month to have a "Mask" in each of the challenges I enter at the Forum this month.  It was hard!  But I did get great use of those stamps that have not been used for awhile.

I rotated my page and deets below.

 

The SKINny

Page measures 12" x 12" and is on Whisper White card stock (cs).  I was making some ice tea this morning and was about to throw away the tea bags when inspiration struck.  Ran back to my desk grabbed some cs and used tea bags to make background.

I added Masking Tape in corners then sponged with ink.

Hands and finger smears were stamped with my Smeared Ink Rubber Club set, Prints.  

Hard to see but grid lines also stamped in each tape corner, over strip under picture, and around edges of the Cajun Craze cs under picture.  Stamp from Stampin' Up! called Off the Grid. 

For the strip under picture, I used the red bag that onions come in from the grocery store.  Laid it on my cs, then sponged Soft Suede ink and got the cool pattern.

Used Cajun Craze Ink for sploches and smears on hands/finger smears.  Sponged ink on all sides of cs.

For my saying, I dyed some White Bakers Twine.  Formed words and used Crystal Effects to hold words together.  When dried, I place on page.

Stitching on left side of photo is Natural Hemp Twine. Picture is of my son who love running around the house w/ that mask on.  Hummm....hope it just means he likes scaring his older brothers!

Guest Designer Smeared and Smudged Forum - Bloody Face

This is the first project I made for my Guest Design Challenge - Masks over at the Smeared and Smudged Forum.  Get your game on and join us!  I am going to start with how I made the mask.

 

I used a technique called Faux Leather.  I wanted to make the mask look as skin like and leathery as possible.

Start with small pieces of masking tape.  I made the shape of a head, left areas for eyes and mouth open.

I used Whisper White card stock as my base.

I did add some extra layers on the nose for a little dimension.

When finished with my masking tape base, I applied inks with a sponge and then with my fingers. 





Next was to add the shine.  I Versa Marked the entire face.

Clear Embossing Powder was applied to the mask.  Heat gun to melt the powder and give the mask a nice texture.


Once embossed, I cut out the mask.  Cut out the eyes, mouth, and made small holes where the nose would be.


I used a new Stampin' Up! product called Simply White Pressed Clay for the teeth.  I molded with my hands and placed on edge of cut area of mouth. 

Clay took a day to dry.  Once dry I used inks to color in teeth.

I really liked how the Crystal Effects, ink, and tissue paper look like bloody skin, so I used it again around the teeth and eyes.






Once the Crystal Effects was dried, I cut a slit at the top of mask and used Linen Thread and a needle to sew cut slit.

Then added red ink to thread and holes.


 I stamped eyes with a stamp from Lost Coast Designs.  Stamp is from a set called Keys Set 1200.  Ink used was Black Staze On.

I printed images from Google that had to do with the history of Bloody Face.  Cut and used masking tape to adhere to 12" x 12" Crumb Cake card stock.

For the name, I mixed Rookwood Red and True Red Acrylic Inks and wrote the name with my finger.

Spritzed Silver Foil Smooch Spritz over entire page.

When page was dry, I adhered mask with Sticky Strip.

Guest Designer Challenge

I am so grateful to the wonderful group over at the Smeared Ink Forum for inviting me to Guest Design a June Challenge.  This is a free forum full of challenges, contests, and many creative designers.  Please check out the site and I hope to see you as a fellow member.

I have decided to use the theme of "Masks" for my June Challenge.  This is any kind of creative project/s that have anything to do with masks.  I will show 2 projects today and 2 more projects on the 15th to keep your creative minds going.  I have also decided to challenge myself this month by having a mask somewhere on all my projects that I will submit to the Smeared Ink Forum this month.

I can not wait for this month to get started.  Thank You again Smeared Ink for the invite.   I hope to bring you some great projects this month.  So here we go....


 I have two projects to get you inspired today.  The first is a 12" x 12" scrapbook page that was inspired by the TV show on FX called American Horror Story Asylum.  This was Season 2, and one of the main plots was a ghost story about Bloody Face who haunted the run down local asylum.  Bloody Face wears a mask of human skin when he kills his victims.  Creeeeeepy.....

  

My second project is a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card that uses a rubber stamp.  You never know when a gas mask stamp may be needed!
