Smeared and Smudged Junk Funk December Challenge

Phew, I think this is the last one for today.  Nothing like trying to get these all in at once! 

I am enjoying creating my Art Journal pages.  Looks like this AJ is going to be full of bad girls thinking and doing bad things.  So this may be a never ending journal!

The Junk Funk Challenge this month on the Smeared and Smudged Forum is using CUT OFFS.  Which are those extra bits of card stock, designer paper, or whatever was cut off that you did not use in a previous project.  I also had inspiration from on the prompts in the Art Journal Group to use lots of torn up pieces to add to your project as well.

My bad girl is a Smeared Ink digital stamp from the Glam Vamp set.

Drawn Up Deets

All pieces for background are from stash.

Glam Vamp digital set is where vamp girl is from in the Smeared Ink shop.  Markers to color her in, then fussy cut and adhere to dried page with Crystal Effects.

White Gesso and Crystals Effects used.

Black Sharpie for words, crosses, and to outline vamp girl.

Dark Red Acrylic Paint around edges and smeared on page.

Paper piercer and red marker to make bit holes.

31 DOH - Day 10 & Smeared and Smudged Forum & Punk You Girl Challenges

Hello again and welcome back to another day, Day 10, of 31 Days of Halloween, held by Smeared Ink and the Smeared and Smudged Forum.  You should have just left Roni and are now here, at Shoni aka Crafty Inknik's Blog.  The Wicked Blogger list is to the left and if you need more info on this awesome event, click on Terra's blog to help answer any questions.  Next, you will be off to Jenn's.

 

 The Smeared and Smudged Forum has lots of fun, month long challenges.  You can get free digital images, see some wonderful projects, and win amazing prizes.  Check it out!  This card will be in the Junk Funk Challenge.  You have to use envelops somehow in your project.  Either new or old, but old is better.

Can you guess what Punk You Girl's Challenge is??  Hum....October...It is Challenge #5, Halloween!  So for all you who get inspired to create a project, enter!  You've got til' the end of the month.

I admit it.  I am in love with the Smeared Ink Rubber Club set Creepy Lil' Grumpies.  They have stolen my heart.  This lil' grumpie was screaming to be used, but how?  

The new October challenges were posted on the forum.  A couple of years ago I got into Iris Folding.  I love the foil papers, but tend to be a little expensive.  

One smart lady said she uses the insides of her bill/junk mail envelops.  Have you ever noticed the security pattern on the insides?  Well these make perfect Iris Folding papers w/ really cool patterns.  And are FREE!  "Ding" went my brain and so this card was created.  I forgot how fun Iris Folding was.

I stamped the image of the 'shadow'.  

Cut out stamped image.

Cut my envelope strips into 1" width.

Fold in half.  The folded edge of the strip will face the center of your cut image.

I used Snail (Stampin' Up! adhesive, tape runner) all around cut 'shadow', and while making the folding pattern.

It is good to have 3 or 4 different patterns/colors of paper.  I used 3.  

Alternate A pattern, B pattern, and C pattern when adhering down.

Last picture is when all pieces are placed and the entire image is covered.

I did use scotch tape to extra secure pattern pieces down.

That's it.  Lots of free patterns out there and really fun.

Grumpie and candle were stamped onto main card and separate piece of card stock with Black Staze On.  Fussy cut body and candle then used dimensional to adhere and give a little depth.
Markers and Blender Pen to color in.
Crystal Effects on eyes and flame.

Background is stippled and sponged, then gone over with an Aqua Painter.

I used the same pieces of pattern to create a small frame edging.

Smeared & Smudged and a New Blog Challenges - Sour Alice

Well I hope the 4th was great for everyone.  Too much food already and it is only Friday!  I was able to work on one project this past week, then when I was almost finished...my computer had to go to the doctor.  Got her back just today, so was able to finish project just in time for the closing date.

I am going to enter my project into two challenges.  One being for the Smeared and Smudged Forum and the other for a fun new blog, Musically Challenged Challenge.  This new blog lets you get creative and inspired from music and or  the music video.  Very cool, better get over there to check it out and the Design Team.

Musically Challenged Challenge #3 - Along Came A Spider by Alice Cooper

I watched the mini movie / music video and wanted to do something a little different and insane.  I am a sucker for backgrounds.  I loved what was going in the background on all three segments of this challenge.  I ended up using the container as a look into the craziness of one's mind with this video as my inspiration.  Since I used a Sour Cream container I have decided to name this little project Sour Alice:

The Crazy Deets
The video itself had so many parts that all ended up fitting.  That is what I tried to do with this container.

INSIDE
Let me apologize for the bad picture of the inside.  I took it through the eye hole, but my camera did not like it - so fuzziness.  But, yes, that is Slash rocking out.  I printed him out, cut slits on each side of guitar and added the red ribbon.  then glued down to bottom of container.

I wanted the inside to look like the padded walls of a room.  I had some bubble packaging that I am going to use on another project, and thought that it would be great to Gesso (white).  There you go, my walls.

Every 80's metal video (almost) had one bombshell or another in it.  I used three lovely ladies from my Smeared Ink Rubber Club, Femdom.  I stamped them in Black Staze On, on the inside of the container.




When the Gesso dried, I wrote the lyrics with a sharpie and some graffiti.

I cut the packaging into sections, because I did not have enough.  But it worked out because you are able to see some T & A from the ladies.






OUTSIDE
The straight jacket had to be a part of my project.  So I decided to wrap it around what my insane, crazy mind came up with.

I used a piece of 12"x 12" Very Vanilla card stock.  Place strips of Masking Tape.  Then sewed down the strips.  I did end up sponging some inks to add some age.

I used Sticky Strip to adhere everything down.

The strap holding the jacket in place is a piece of Cotton Ribbon that I stamped sploches (Gorgeous Grunge SU! set) on.   Then sewed buttons on in red and purple to represent the colors of the chocking scarves.

LID
Distress Crackle Paint, Picket Fence, by Tim Holtz was spread mainly around cut eye on lid.  Once dried, Gesso was applied.

When Gesso dried I used my mixture of Black Staze On reinker, Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz, and alcohol to paint around eye to make Alice Cooper's trademark makeup.  Dropped mixture around edges as well.

Once this layer was dried, I added Crystal Effects and applied mixture once more.  




All inks, card stock, and accessories are Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted.

Smeared & Smudged Junk Funk - Mask

Yup, it is all about the mask's this month and here is another project for the Junk Funk Challenge at the Smeared and Smudged Forum by Smeared Ink.

Challenge was to use a cereal box in some way.  I also had a challenge for myself to use a "Mask" in all of my projects sumitted to this month's Forum.

I do need to give a big head nod to a wonderful talented lady, Helen.  Check out her blog, Croms' Cubby Hole.  You will not be disappointed.  Her so awesome project inspired mine.  I will post Helen's project at the end of my post, because you might not come back to mine!

My other inspiration was that so great 1985 movie Mask.  I love this movie.  How good looking is Sam Elliott in this??

Stamps

Saying on front of bench is from Dylusional called Say It How It Is.  I stamped in Marina Mist and used the Early Espresso marker around edges. 

Barb Wire frame is from my Smeared Ink Rubber Club stamp set Urban Decay, stamped in Early Espresso.

Saying on back is from a set called Yippee-Skippee! by Stampin' Up!

I printed out an image I found on Google for the movie Mask.  The 80's remind me of mass advertising and graffiti for some reason.  So I made my little bench following those guidelines.

Bench

In Helen's post she took a picture of the bits and pieces of her bench before she assembled it.  It was a kit pre-cut made from wood.  I printed out her picture and using Grid Paper, drew the pieces.  It took several adjustments, but I finally got my pattern.  I scanned my pattern, cut out pieces, traced pieces onto my box, cut out pieces, and assembled.

Bench was spritzed with Log Cabin Smooch Spritz (retired from SU!) and used Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint on sides and back.

I adhered pictures and sayings.

To make small dots on front, and graffiti on sides, I used a Silver Marker.

My Wailing Tree

Junk Funk Challenge at Smear and Smudged this month is - Foil.  I just recently did a project with foil and wanted to create a 3D project to really show off all those cool textures that you get with foil.

THE DEETS

 

TREE
 I started scrunching the foil to the form that I wanted the tree to be.

Then added more foil at the bottom to make a thick trunk. 

I also kept this part of the tree pretty lose so that when I did add the faces at the bottom it would be easier to press them into the trunk.



I had to use folded squares to first form the face with a stylus, then I used Crystal Effects to help hold the faces in place once they were pressed into the trunk.  There are 9 faces around trunk.

Once the faces were in place and dry, I used a blue Sharpie to color in the eyes and mouth.

I finished twisting and forming the tree, then spritzed with Mulberry Red Maya Mist, and a concoction of acrylic paint (Burnt Umber) and alcohol.  The spirtzing really helped in showing all the grooves and cracks in the tree.

I added Crystal Effects to the faces to help define them a little more.

I printed out and did a mirror image as well because I wanted the project to be able to be seen from all sides.

She was colored in with Copic's, set with Crystal Effects, fussy cut, glued together, and places in the tree.




The last two photos are of two other angles so that you can see all limbs, faces, and her.

As I am writing this, the designer paper in the back really does not fit this.  Sorry!  It needs a good graveyard scene.

  

Whaddya Think?

When I first joined Smeared and Smudged I immediately checked out the challenges.  The project that I am posting today is for a Junk Funk challenge where you recycle something in your home.  This month it is newspaper.
Now you can do a lot with newspaper and my initial go to was paper mache.  But the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to do something different, out of the box.
My inspiration for this project was the face coming out of the wallpaper, only with newspaper.  I scrunched and spritzed and glued for an outcome that I never knew I could create.  All I did was try, and so should you.
I am also going to join in the Left of Center Creative Challenge this round.
I thought it would be fun to make the picture look like it was the "morning" paper.
So, Whaddya Think?

THE DEETS:
I started with scrunching up about 1/4 of one newspaper page.
Then scrunched up and spritzed with water 1/2 of a page.  This 1/2 page went over the smaller balled up one to help form the bulk of the head.
I glued the top 1/2 down, with Tombow, on all sides to another piece of newspaper as the base.
I then formed the head by pulling and scrunching to make the mouth and eyes.
Once I had the basic form of the face, I tore off more pieces of newspaper to go around the sides to help with the look of the face coming out of the newspaper base.
I made sure to dry after any water or spritzing just in case of molding.

I spritzed with a mixture of alcohol, re-inker, and water.  I used Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake re-inkers (SU!).

I stamped the flame images (The Great Outdoors stamp set - SU!).  Then colored in with markers and punched out.  I set in eye sockets and covered with Crystal Effects.

Once the eyes were dry I went randomly over raised areas and around base with an Acrylic Paint Dabber, Espresso.  Then used a sponge as well with the same paint.

I wanted to Steampunk this up a bit, so I Versa Marked a small 3" x 3" piece of newspaper.  Then used Pewter Embossing Powder to emboss.  I impressed the cogs (on head and side) with the stamps from a set called Clockworks (SU!).  Cut them out and tore strips to add faux metal to project.
Raided my husbands tool box and found some washers, screws, and other metal objects which were glued down.

I spitzed again with Tattered Angels Chalkboard called Alaskan Salmon and Gold Smooch Spritz (SU!) to finish off the coloring on the project.

I found some headlines in our local paper and adhered them with Crystal Effects.

Since I wanted to make the head look like it was out of the paper itself, I glued newspaper base to 1/2 of a piece of newspaper.  Once dry, I again glued the bigger base to the left side of our local paper.  I used Crystal Effects to adhere all the edges of each base down.
